Verify using primary sources where possible

Licensing rules vary by state and locality. When a license, registration, permit, or insurance requirement applies, use the relevant government agency or the insurer rather than relying only on a screenshot or logo in the proposal.

The bid and business should match

The business name, contract signer, insurance information, payment recipient, and permit applicant should make sense together. Inconsistencies are a reason to pause and ask for clarification.

After the hiring decision
